The story also lacks urgency, with some weirdly stilted pacing that makes this 4-hour game feel like a 10-hour one. Even the special video features you unlock don't play smoothly, so I don't know what went wrong here. This came to a head when a stutter in a late-game QTE actually caused one of my characters to die. This gets particularly egregious during quick-time events where frame stutters can often make you miss button presses.

I played this on a PS4 Pro where the performance was very uneven. The characters all look fantastic in stills, but their faces never animate the way a human face should which makes them uncanny in an early-2000's CGI kind of way. It's clear that moving over to Unreal Engine from Decima (which also powers Horizon Zero Dawn, and the upcoming Death Stranding) has been troubling, because the facial capture never looks quite right. The claustrophobic hallways of the Medan have a suitably unsettling atmosphere, but it also means the camera is usually uncomfortably close to some woefully unfinished textures. This is also where the game's many problems start popping up. After being abducted by pirates who are convinced the ship has gold, things are not what they expected and spooky shenanigans ensue.
The game follows four young adults and their boat captain as they dive into a plane wreck to find clues to the coordinates of a lost World War II ship.
